Get Cracking: Sweet Winter Wishes

For this holiday card, I played with some of the newest Purple Onion/ Stacey Yacula images! I was in Ohio for a crafty retreat with some of my crafty friends. I didn’t want to bring a ton of things since I was flying, so I brought the new stamps, some Distress Watercolor cardstock and Distress Watercolor Pencils. I spent the time there watercoloring and it was so relaxing! This new release will be available at Purple Onion Designs on Saturday, October 22nd and I will be sharing some more cards then as well!

Purple Onion stamps come as just the red rubber, but using their cling mount stamp they are easy to use. I even have a fun way to organize them, you can see more about that in my post here.

So, I stamped the images on Distress Watercolor Cardstock with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink, and using a No 4 round paintbrush colored in the images with Distress Watercolor Pencils.

I then fussy cut out the images, I love using the Fiskars Spring Action Scissors whenever fussy cutting, makes it MUCH easier! I set aside the images and worked on the background of the card. For this I die-cut a large stitched rectangle from the Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Rectangle Stackables out of Distress White Heavystock, and then I lightly inkblended the top 3 quarters of the card with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink. Next, using the Make Art Stay-tion and the Newton’s Nook Petite Snow Stencil, I stenciled the design over the light ink blending with the same ink pad, only going heavier with the ink to make it darker. Whenever I am ink blending I love to use the Ink Stands to hold my ink pads, and my favorite blender brushes are the Simon Says Stamp ones, organized in the Layer Cake Brush Caddie.

I stamped the sentiment which is also from Purple Onion Designs with Versafine Onyx Black ink.

Next up, I glittered all of the things. Using a Quickie Glue Pen and Prisma Glitter I added some sparkle to the large lollipop, the white stripes on the scarf and hat, and the bows on the smaller lollipops. I then put the card together by adding the images with some foam squares. I ink blended a rainbow border with Distress Inks on the card base. I then added Distress Collage Medium to the trim of the hat, and added some Distress Rock Candy. I added more Distress Collage Medium along the “ground” and sprinkled some Distress Mica Flakes.

One last little touch, I added a little Black Glaze pen to the bears eyes, nose and mouth.

This was such a fun card to put together, I find watercoloring SO relaxing and I can’t wait to share with you on YouTube!
