Holiday Inspiration, Purple Onion Designs

I have some fun holiday inspiration for you with some of the latest Purple Onion Design/Stacey Yacula stamps. I adore these images and have so much fun coloring them, no matter what coloring medium I am using. I mentioned in my Get Cracking on Christmas post from October that I was hanging out with some crafty friends this fall and packed my Distress Watercolor Pencils, Distress Watercolor Cardstock, and these adorable Purple Onion Designs/Stacey Yacula images. I spent the weekend watercoloring away, and then came home and made them into cards. I haven’t had a chance to blog about them until now. Hope you enjoy these fun designs!

For each of these cards, I colored the images on Distress Watercolor Cardstock with Distress Watercolor pencils. Stamping the images with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink. Since these stamps are unmounted I use the Stamp Mount from Purple Onion Designs in a mini Misti to stamp the images.

When watercoloring with Distress Watercolor Pencils, I like to use a round paintbrush. Ranger Ink has a great paintbrush set that includes these, or I also like these two brushes from Blick Arts Round #2 and Round #4. I use a collapsable water cup to hold water and of course, a Flour Sack Cloth to dry my brush off, wipe my hands etc.

I fussy cut out all of the images, and my favorite scissors to do this with are Fiskars Spring Action Scissors. I have been using these since college and are my favorite!

As always when I use stencils I use the Make Art Stay-tion and whenever I am ink blending I love to use the Ink Stands to hold my ink pads,

I also glittered all the things on this card. All of them have Prisma Glitter that I added with a Quickie Glue pen. The other fun sparkly supplies I used I will explain per card below.

Very Merry Christmas

For this card, I masked the archway and stamped a snowy background using Lawn Fawn’s Window Scene: Winter stamp set and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. Along the ground, I used Glossy Accents and sprinkled Distress Rock Candy Dry Glitter. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink.

Sweet Holiday Wishes

I was having TOO much fun creating this sweet little gingerbread scene. I lightly ink blended the background with Salvaged Patina and Spun Sugar Distress Ink. I then stenciled Lawn Fawn’s Snowy Sky with Salvaged Patina on the top and a heavier ink application. On the bottom, I stenciled Lawn Fawn’s Cloudy Stencil with a heavier ink application of Spun Sugar. I created the pathway up to the gingerbread house with Glossy Accents and Distress Rock Candy Dry Glitter. I created the snow along the ground with Distress Mica Flakes, and I used Distress Collage Medium for adhesive. For the sentiment, I ink blended a piece of cardstock with Kitsch Flamingo Distress Ink and stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink, I then cut it into word fetti. I ink-blended the edge of the card base with Festive Berries Distress Ink.

Pink Prancer

I pulled out all the pinks for this card! For the background, I used Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink and Lawn Fawn’s Snowflake Background Stencils. For the ground, I just ink-blended a solid color of Spun Sugar. When I ink blend with Distress Oxide Inks I like to use an ink blending tool and the domed foam because of their pigment properties.

I added a touch of Sakura Black Glaze pen to the nose of Prancer. I added Distress Mica Flakes to the ground with Distress Collage Medium. I ink-blended the edge of the card base with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink.

Winter Penguin

For this card, I ink blended a background lightly with Salvaged Patina and Wilted Violet Distress Ink, and then stenciled over that with Simon Says Stamps Peace Love Joy stencil with a darker ink application. I trimmed that down and added it to the bottom of the card. On the top, I stamped a few snowflakes from Lawn Fawn’s Penguin Party stamp set in Mermaid Lawn Fawn Ink. I stamped the sentiment on a sentiment banner with Versafine Onyx Black Ink.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

For this card, I followed the same format as above, only this time I used Festive Berries Distress Ink and Hero Arts Poinsettia Stencil. For the sentiments, I stamped them with Lobster Lawn Fawn Ink.
