The Creative Blog Hop

09/15/2014

Hey Everyone! I was tagged by the very artistic Evelin (of Evelin T Designs) to participate in the Creative Blog Hop in her post here. I was so flattered to receive Evelin’s email to ask if I would participate in this hop. I had the pleasure of being on the Sweet Stamp Shop Design Team with Evelin while she also released her own stamp designs through the Sweet Stamp Shop. I love following Evelin on instagram and her facebook page and seeing all of her artistic endeavors, she is very talented!

The idea around The Creative Blog Hop is to learn a bit more about other bloggers by answering four questions, so here we go…

1. What am I working on right now?

Prepping for Classes | shurkus.com

Oh boy, this is a very busy time of year for me as I teach a lot of papercrafting classes- and I find that in the fall people are ready to dive back into their hobby after the summer months. So I am working on designing, kitting and marketing those classes. You can see my schedule here.

I am also super busy planning for my Loft Art Retreats this fall. I am hosting 2 of them, one of which registration just started. So lots of organizing, designing and planning for those. And on top of that just my normal Design Team work for Lawnscaping Challenges and Simon Says Stamp

2. How does my work differ from those in my genre?

You know, I’m not even sure what my genre is…. is that bad? I guess I might differ because my style is all over the place. I can go from clean and simple, to mixed media, to technique heavy. I truly enjoy it all! I love creating a simple card, or an artsy fartsy art journal page.

3. Why do I create what I do?

Another good question. I truly believe in doing something creative everyday. If i wasn’t able to do that I would be the saddest person ever. I love creating. I love getting painty and inky and just be in the zone of creative ideas. Also a large amount that I create is for teaching. I love teaching. I have been teaching in person papercrafting classes for over 10 years now. When I managed a local store I sometimes taught 2-3 different classes a week. I still remember the excitement when a new class calendar was posted. I still enjoy teaching a class and seeing that light bulb go off when people learn something new. I also am enjoying teaching right here on my website. I am working at posting more videos, and photo tutorials to share things with you 🙂

4. How does my creative process work?

My Studio Table | shurkus.com

I try my best to stay organized, and keep a list of projects and deadlines. Unfortunately I find that I am most creative under pressure, so procrastination really is my middle name. You can give me months to create something.. but the creative juices don’t really start to flow until the pressure is on and deadline is looming. I also like to create with a bit of a mess. I always clean up and put things way in between projects, but when in the middle of a project my studio table area looks like a disaster! The only time it is semi clean when I’m creating is when I am filming a video 😉

I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me 🙂

The last part of this blog hop is to TAG some creative  people that inspire me and these are the creative ladies who inspire me and also offer me creative support as well 🙂 I am lucky to be on the Lawnscaping Challenge team with both of them.

Be sure to bookmark their blogs as they will be posting next Monday, September 22nd.

I currently live in South Carolina and LOVE all things crafty related! My two little men keep me super busy! And when I’m not working, playing or reading, I’m in my office making something happy!! I made my first scrapbook in 2003, and then really focused on cards in 2009!

Yainea Yainea Nuñez

Hi! My name is Cristina but I use Yainea as a nickname all the time. I’m from Spain, I love everything cute and crafty and I specially  enjoy stamping and cardmaking 🙂
I also love long walks riding my bike with my boyfriend, animals (I have two dogs and a cat) and, as a software engineer, everything computer related. Oh! And I couldn’t live without coffee! He he I know some of you know what I mean 😉
