This week’s challenge is Anything Goes! – Create whatever you desire! Do you have some new goodies you haven’t inked up yet? Or maybe something you haven’t played with in awhile. Time to dust it off or ink it up and create!! The design team is featuring supplies from Hero Arts this week. I have a few new to me goodies from Hero Arts so I will be back tomorrow AND friday with some more inspiration- be sure to come back and visit. For today I played with Hero Arts/Basic Grey Highline Background Stamp and…. my distress inks!
I just loved this Hero Arts/Basic Grey Highline Background Stamp the first time I saw it. I love typography and written letters, so pretty.
I started with some of my favorite Distress Ink Colors: Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey, Peacock Feathers and Seedless Preserves.
I inked up the stamp using these inks. I started with the wild honey, and then went to the darker colors overlapping all of them a bit. I then spritzed that stamp with a fine mist of water. Leaving the stamp just as it is above, I laid a piece of Distress Watercolor Paper over it, and pressed all over.
I then took a Tim Holtz Detailer Waterbrush filled with water and started to gently pull the color into the white letters, filling them in. When this was done I then used the waterbrush to blend out the background and any splotchy stamping that might have occurred since it was such a solid stamp.
I was really pleased with how pretty this background turned out. The distress inks blend so nicely with water. I was trying to decide what to do next. I wanted something that really POPPED off of all the color and texture I had going on. I decided I would try my hand at fun scripty lettering in my own handwriting.
I have one of Tim Holtz Detailer Waterbrush and I have filled it with Sumi Ink per Dina Wakley’s suggestion. It works great to do writing in your art journal. You can see where I was testing it out in my instagram picture. I penciled out the word “hello” and then traced over it with the Tim Holtz Detailer Waterbrush filled with Sumi Ink.
I then did a wash of Peacock Feathers, and Seedless Preserves Distress Ink. I cut it into pennant and adhered it to my card.
