Now to share the cards I created, I hope you find them inspiring!
For this card, I started by stamping the main Santa image onto a piece of Distress Watercolor Cardstock with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink. I then proceeded to color in the image with Distress Watercolor Pencils. I have some informative posts on how I am using these pencils here:
- Comparing Distress Watercolor Pencils to Copic coloring
- Initial thoughts about Distress Watercolor Pencils and why I like them
- Watercolored background, and LIVE video replay with DIstress Watercolor Pencils
If you would like to see some more projects I have created with Distress Watercolor Pencils, you can here. I have an online class all about Distress Watercolor Pencils – see more details here.
Distress Watercolor Pencil colors I used:
- Santa and toy bag – Picked Raspberry, Candied Apple
- Bow – Mustard Seed
- Boots – Black Soot
- Chimney – Barn Door, Fired Brick
- Ladder – Vintage Photo
- Trees – Rustic Wilderness
- Shadow of the snow – Tumbled Glass
- Shadow of the house – Hickory Smoke
- Background – Villainous Potion, Seedless Preserves
Once I dried the image with the Ranger Heat Tool, I then created a simple mask to place over the scene. Next, I used the stencil included with the stamp set to spread Snowfall Grit Paste, through. I also spread some Snowfall Grit Paste onto the roof and chimney with a palette knife. This paste is part of the limited edition holiday release of products from Ranger and Tim Holtz. The release also includes Distress Mica Sprays, Distress Pearl Crayons, and Distress Holiday Woodgrain Cardstock.
Using Distress Collage Medium, I added Distress Rock Candy to the trim of Santa’s suit and hat. I ink blended a panel of Distress White Heavystock with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink and matted the card onto that. For the sentiment, I stamped one included in the set with Versafine Onyx Black, cut it out into a rectangle with the Tim Holtz Tonic Trimmer, and added it to the card with foam squares.
Next, if you know me, you know I LOVE snowflakes!! So I just had to create some cards with the beautiful snowflakes included in the set, and as soon as I got started you will see I couldn’t stop because I was having SO much fun!
For these, I dipped the Distress Watercolor Pencil into a cup of water for a couple of seconds, I then scribbled the pencil directly onto the stamp. Since Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous stamps are red rubber stamps, this technique works beautifully.
I gently misted the stamp with water from the Distress Sprayer, holding it 8 or so inches above the stamp, to get a fine mist. I then stamped. I repeated this process with different colors and different stamps. I also did multiple stamping with only adding Distress Watercolor Pencils to the stamp once, in between each time I stamped I would just mist some more water. You can see how this gave a different impression from the image.
The Distress Watercolor Pencil colors I used were:
- Picked Raspberry
- Peacock Feathers
- Shaded Lilac
- Villainous Potion
I also needed to play with some rainbow colors another favorite thing to do, so I used:
- Picked Raspberry
- Spiced Marmalade
- Mustard Seed
- Twisted Citron
- Salty Ocean
- Peacock Feathers
- Seedless Preserves
I die cut all of the backgrounds with the largest Outside In Stitched Rectangle from Lawn Fawn and matted it onto a card base where I inked the edges with a blender brush and coordinating Distress Ink colors.
For the sentiments, using ones from the stamp set, I stamped them in coordinating Distress Oxide ink colors. Since Distress Oxides have a pigment property to them, they stamp really nice. I cut the sentiments into rectangles with the Tim Holtz Tonic Trimmer, and then lightly dusted the edges with the coordinating Distress Ink, so it was a bit softer than if I used the Oxide. Of course, for the rainbow ones, I was a little extra and did a little bit of all the colors around the edge! Lastly, I added some Pinkfresh Clear Irridescent Drops or Pinkfresh Glacier Jewels to the cards to add a little sparkle.
I ended up making 9 different cards and having a ton of fun!! Remember this is a limited and exclusive stamp/stencil set! Once it is sold out it is GONE!
