Hey everyone! Welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Birthday Celebration challenge last week and we hope you will all join us again this week too. This week the challenge is Let’s do the polka! I have a fun card to share with you where I watercolored my own polka dots!
We are featuring Lawn Fawn Products this week. You don’t have to use them to join in with the challenge, but if you have them we would love to see them used! As always Simon Says Stamp will be giving away $50 voucher to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store! YAY!
Watercolored Polka Dots
I LOVE Lawn Fawn’s Let’s Polka Patterned Papers. I use them a ton in my creations. Instead of taking the easy route and just using some of that on a card I decided I wanted to experiment a little bit and create my own polka dots. I have been watercoloring with Distress Inks SO much over the past year and a half. (If you follow my blog you already know this 😉 ) I decided instead of using my Distress ink pads to watercolor I wanted to play around with the Distress re-inkers to get a more intense, concentrated color.
I shared this sneak peek on instagram a bit ago where I was setting up my palette for a rainbow of colors. I am using the Distress Ink Palette.
As simple as this card looks I had 3 failed attempts before I got to this. I tried using a polka dot stencil first so that my dots would be evenly spaced out. Before getting frustrated that it wasn’t coming out the way I wanted I scrapped that idea and just free handed them and eye-balled where I wanted them. No measuring. Nothing is precise. Thats how I usually create so I think it wasn’t working out because I was trying to force something.
The Distress Ink Colors I used:
- Picked Raspberry
- Spiced Marmalade
- Mustard Seed
- Mowed Lawn
- Mermaid Lagoon
- Wilted Violet
For the sentiment I simply die cut Lawn Fawn’s Scripty Friends out of Distress Watercolor Cardstock and layered it on top.
Want to see in person how I created this card?
