Hero Arts Spring Meadow Release – Lilac Love 💜
Hero Arts has released their beautiful new Hero Arts Spring Meadow collection, and I had so much fun creating with the new lilac stamps and dies!
If you know me at all, you know my favorite flower is a purple lilac. I love that they bloom during my birthday month (May 💕), but I always wish they lasted longer. I grew up in New Hampshire, where lilacs are the state flower, so they were EVERYWHERE, lining yards, blooming along sidewalks, filling the air with that unmistakable scent.
Here on Cape Cod, hydrangeas definitely steal the spotlight. But my sweet friend Melissa always shares cut blossoms from her lilac trees with me, and she even gave me a cutting to plant when we moved into our home. That first bloom felt extra special. 💜
And if you love lilacs as much as I do, I highly recommend the Mrs. Meyer’s lilac-scented cleaning products (I stock up every spring!) and the Wild Lilac candle from Firefly Farm… SO good.
Okay, back to the cards. 😄
Let’s Talk Technique
I started all three cards by creating the backgrounds using Distress Watercolor Pencils. I love how versatile they are, you can pigment-smoosh, scribble directly onto your surface, or add color through a stencil. For these, I layered color loosely and activated it with water for that soft, organic look.
Over the watercolor backgrounds, I stamped the Hero Arts Birdsong Script cling stamp for texture and added interest with the Grids & Icons Mixed Media Hero Transfers. That layered, slightly vintage feel pairs perfectly with florals.
Next up: the lilacs
Whether I was:
- Die cutting and layering the dimensional blooms
- Or embossing the stamped image
I watercolored everything using Distress Watercolor Pencils. They give you that soft blend while still allowing deep, rich purples, and lilacs need that depth!
For the sentiments, I white heat embossed them onto black cardstock (you know I love that bold contrast moment). And to finish things off, I added touches of Distress Rock Candy Clear Glitter to some of the blossoms. It gives just enough sparkle without overpowering all that watercolor goodness.
All of the supplies I used are linked at the bottom of this post to make it easy for you to recreate these cards or add a little lilac love to your stash.

These are so gorgeous Jenn! I am so in love with them that I had to order the set as well, yikes! I just could not resist. Well done..
Yes these are so pretty. I love lilacs and anything scented with that mystical summer smell. I have to say I’m incredibly inspired by all you do. I am definitely a water colour pencil, glitter gal!
I also want to let you know how much I appreciate your updates. In these dark times you are a fearless light. Right now in BC 🇨🇦 we are shattered beyond belief with the loss of life in a senseless act of violence in a small community in our remote northern part of our province. Very little mental health services and we obviously must do better. I have to say I’m leaning heavily on my creative community to get me through this.
glad to be a source of happy in difficult times. If you are ever looking for watercolor inspo- just search “distress watercolor pencils” on my site- you will have a ton to inspire you 😉
Beautiful cards!! I’m a lilac person too. Love hydrangea also, but the scent from lilacs is heavenly. Thanks for sharing your amazing talents!!
Beautiful! Can you share the colors you used?
