Don’t miss my Get Cracking on Christmas post today as well!
Today I have some fun beachy inspiration for you with some of the latest Purple Onion Design/Stacey Yacula stamps. I adore these images and have so much fun coloring them, no matter what coloring medium I am using. You all know I love to create ocean-themed cards- and these new images did not disappoint! I love how some of them really have a New England flair!
Purple Onion Designs stamps are unmounted I use the Stamp Mount from Purple Onion Designs in a mini Misti to stamp the images.
I share how I use Purple Onion stamps, how I store them and some tips in this video here
I fussy cut out all of the images, and my favorite scissors to do this with are Fiskars Spring Action Scissors. I have been using these since college and are my favorite! I also find using a finger tip x-acto so much easier than a regular x-acto, and this is helpful to get into the small areas.
I also glittered all the things on these cards. All of them have Prisma Glitter that I added with a Quickie Glue pen. The other fun sparkle that you see is Distress Rock Candy Glitter, which I adhere with Distress Collage Medium
Most of the backgrounds I watercolored with Distress Watercolor Pencils onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock. If you would like to learn more about Distress Watercolor Pencils, be sure to check out my online class here. I colored in the images with Copic Markers. I am sharing swatches for each card so you can easily substitute for similar colors or even a different coloring medium. If you are interested in learning more about Copic coloring, or alcohol marker coloring, be sure to check out my Copic 101 online class here.
Real Lifesaver
For this card, I started by stamping the lifeguard chair directly onto a piece of Distress White Heavystock. I then proceeded to mask the chair and umbrella so I could stamp the beach, and ink blend the background. I ink blended with Lawn Fawn ink in Peacock, Merman, and Lemonade. Nothing is more satisfying than to pull up a mask after stamping and ink blending!
I used blender brushes (that I store in my favorite brush caddy). Whenever I am ink blending I love to use the Ink Stands to hold my ink pads, I also use a small mister bottle filled with Isopropyl Alcohol, to quickly clean my stencils with a Flour Sack Cloth. Have you seen my new *exclusive* Flour Sack cloths?! They are wicked fun and available in my online shop!
For the rest of the background, I colored with Copic markers. I also stamped, colored, and fussy cut out the lifeguard. After fussy cutting out the images, I always touch the edges with a Memento Black Brush Marker to cover up the white core of the paper and give it a more finished look.
Bright Cabanas
For this card, I watercolored the background with Distress Watercolor Pencils. I colored the Cabanas with Copic Markers, and then fussy cut them out. Instead of cutting out in between all the boards, I colored them with a similar Copic color that matched the watercoloring it was going to layover. For the sentiment, I embossed it onto some vellum. To get a nice crisp, black emboss, I Use Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp the sentiment a few times, let the ink build-up, and then I used an ultra-fine clear embossing powder. Whenever I do ANY embossing, I prep the surface using the Cottontail Embossing Powder Tool.
Beachy Day
For this card, I layered the Rip Curl Wave and Water stamps, and I watercolored them with Distress Watercolor Pencils onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock. I also watercolored a sunset around the water. I stamped, Copic colored, and fussy cut out the fox and added it to the background with foam squares. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink.
Fisherman Wharf
I saved this last card, the best for last. I absolutely LOVE these images, and they remind me of Cape Cod SO much! I stamped the wharf background onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock and watercolored it with Distress Watercolor Pencils. I then stamped the images, Copic colored them, fussy cut them out, and built the scene. You will see the seagull on the right is holding a clamshell, they will often carry shells up high and drop them to crack them open and eat what is inside. You will also see my clam shells have a bit of purple to them, that is because often in clams you will find purple parts of the shell that are used to create Wampum. And YAY! a lobster!! Often with beachy sets, there will be crabs and other sea critters, more typical to tropical waters, so I was wicked excited to see the adorable lobster.
Hope you love these cards as much as I do! Let me know in the comments if you have ever visited New England!

Wow, Jenn, these cards are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! I love every one of them and all of the colors you chose! The work that you put into these is AMAZING!! I have to say my favorite card is the same as yours! Growing up on the south shore, and living on the Cape for the last 25 years is such a gift! Seeing all these adorable creatures and backgrounds, puts the biggest smile on my face! Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful bright, amazing cards with all of us! Plus explaining what you did, and how you created them as such a bonus! I absolutely love them! Thank you so much! 😄❤️😎🩴👙🐻🦊🐋🦞🐠☀️🌊🌅
I adore these cards and have not yet visited New England but it is definitely one of my goals and I know I will fall in love. I live on the West coast close to the sea as well, but know that the New England Coast is legendary and likely I will want to move there once I visit lol.
