I am so excited to share with you the new release from Colorado Craft Company! New illustrations from Anita Jeram, and they are so fun to create with! Ok- let’s get to the good stuff!
For the card I am sharing with you today, I used the new sets Scaredy Cats and Boo! Time and created a fun trick-or-treat scene. Let me show you how I approached this!
When creating a one-layer scene like this, involves a lot of planning and masking, but I find that fun! I start by stamping out a “map” for my card. I stamp out the images, overlapping each other, roughly, to figure out what the scene is going to look like and to help me determine the order of masking layers.
The images that are going to be in the front of the scene, actually need to be stamped first. Then those images get masked so that the second layer of images can be stamped, and in this case, then those images are masked so that the background can be created. Here is a step out showing you how I came about this. Also, I just need to give myself a gold star for cutting out that fence! It was a bit tricky, but the results are so worth it! I fussy cut them out with my trusty Fiskars Spring Action Scissors and Finger Tip Knife.
Once all of the images and a circle for the moon were masked, I started ink blending with Distress Inks. I am working on Distress Watercolor Cardstock. This is a bit trickier to color on with Copic markers, which I will be doing later, but I knew I wanted to do a bit of wet technique, so it was the best choice.
I started by ink blending the ground with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, then went into Spiced Marmalade, then Seedless Preserves, and then Villainous Potion.
Using the Starry Colors Gansai Tambi watercolors, I splattered some gold to create some stars.
I peeled the mask off of the moon and placed the “scrap” piece of masking paper left over from cutting the moon out, to frame in the moon. I then ink blended Mustard Seed Distress Ink, and then some Fossilized Amber along the right side. I am using a Tim Holtz Moon Mask, so I then used the second part of the stencil to add the texture to the moon, I used Villainous Potion and then Fossilized Amber over that.
Using the Distress Sprayer, I dribbled a few water droplets onto the moon, then dried it with the Ranger heat tool, and blotted it with the flour sack cloth.
I then peeled off the moon mask, and softly blended some Mustard Seed Distress Ink around the edges, blending the yellow into the other colors to get a nice moon glow.
I then gently peeled off the other masks, which is always SO satisfying! I colored in the images with Copic markers. Because I am coloring on Distress Watercolor Cardstock, it takes a bit more ink to get larger areas to blend, since the watercolor cardstock is so porous.
I diecut the panel with the largest stitched rectangle in the Outside In Stitched Rectangles from Lawn Fawn and matted it on some Black Licorice cardstock. For the sentiment, I white embossed “Halloween Greetings” from the Boo! Time stamp set, with Yeti Lawn Fawn pigment ink, and Alabaster White Brutus Monroe White Embossing Powder onto Black Licorice Lawn Fawn cardstock.
Note: whenever I do ANY embossing, I prep the surface using the Cottontail Embossing Powder Tool.
I added the sentiment to the card with black foam strips.
These stamps were so fun to play with! The illustrations are just so sweet. Jennabler alert: a full supply list of my cards is at the end of my post with links to shop.
