Get cracking on Christmas | shurkus.com

Alright you guys, TWO MONTHS until Christmas! Time to get cracking on those holiday cards, so I am encouraging YOU to start creating your holiday cards NOW – so you will have a nice stack of creations ready for the next holiday season.

For the past few years, I have been creating a few holiday cards each month so that I am more prepared when November comes around. I enjoy making the cards so much more when I have time to play with different supplies and techniques. I share these cards on the third Thursday of each month. You can see previous Get Cracking on Christmas posts here.

In December, I asked people in my {creative chick} studio share Facebook group, that if you didn’t send holiday cards in 2020, what were the reasons. One of the most common responses was they didn’t have enough time.

So I was thinking, how can I give you time? And I came up with a plan! I know that you enjoy when I host LIVEs and share with you a technique, or how I created a card- so this year each month for Get Cracking on Christmas I am going to host a LIVE. During these LIVEs, I encourage you to join me and start to Get Cracking on your OWN holiday cards. You can do something similar to mine, or just work on your own thing. Doesn’t matter, just show up and create!

This month’s YouTube LIVE will be, tonight, October 21st at 8:00p ET right on my YouTube channel here. Stop reading, and set an alarm now on your phone so you don’t miss out. You can use the world clock here to figure out what time it will be where you live.

Want a reminder text on your phone before I go LIVE? Text “jennshurkus” to 833-758-0501

Don’t worry, if you can’t make my LIVE you can always catch the replay on my YouTube channel, and I will also post the video below.

Inspiration

Also if you are looking for more inspiration, I have a bunch of my crafty friends posting their Get Cracking on Christmas cards today too, see a full list at the end of this post

And as you are creating your holiday cards this year, be sure to leave me a comment below with a link, or tag me on Instagram so I can see! We are also going to use the hashtag #getcrackingonchristmas.

We can do this! We can create holiday cards all year, and be a little bit more prepared for the holiday season!

Ok, enough chatting, let’s get this party started!!

I do have some wicked creative friends sharing their holiday cards today to inspire you!

Get Cracking: Mr. & Mrs. Claus

One of the reasons why I love sharing these Get Cracking on Christmas posts each month is I can justify buying all the fun holiday stamps that come out, and this Mr & Mrs Claus set from Avery Elle just had to come home to me. It is so adorable and a lot of fun to color and set a scene. There are a lot of variations you can create, and we will talk about those during my YouTube LIVE.

Avery Elle, Mr & Mrs Claus

I started by stamping the image on 80# Neenah Cardstock (Lawn Fawn white cardstock is just that), with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink. I then colored it in with Copic markers. I am trying to get better at sharing which markers I used to color in an image. I hope you find this helpful!

I diecut out each of the images, and with a Quickie Glue pen I added some Prisma glitter details. I also added some black glaze pen to the buttons on the snowman balloon and white gel pen to the gingerbread man, and all the rosy cheeks. Setting those aside I worked on the background. I used Distress Oxide in Salvaged Patina and Kitsch Flamingo, and ink blended a background on some Distress White Heavystock.

I then diecut it out of the largest stitched rectangle in the Outside In Stitched Rectangle set from Lawn Fawn. I cut a strip of gold metallic cardstock and cut the edges with the same stitched rectangle die.

I stamped the cute little snowflake cluster image with Yeti Lawn Fawn ink all around the top portion of the background, and then filled in some of the circles with a white gel pen.

I stamped the sentiment on a sentiment banner with Guava Lawn Fawn ink, it’s a really nice warm red and goes along with the pinkish-red tones that their suits are.

I assembled the scene with foam squares. I was questioning the colors a bit, they are definitely non-traditional, but I really like them now.

I can’t wait to share some more tips and tricks with you tonight, I hope you will join me, over on my YouTube channel at 8p ET.
