I am back with a Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge card! This week’s challenge is Back to School – I don’t have a huge need for Back to School cards- and because of that I don’t have a lot of stamps pertaining to that theme. The design team is featuring My Favorite Things stamps this week. After going through my stash from them I decided to think outside of the box a bit. I figured some classrooms have aquariums- so I created my own! I used the MFT Sea Life stamp set.
Since the images are solid, its a perfect set to use distress inks and mix your colors. So I took the coral stamp and inked it up all in Worn Lipstick distress ink, then I dabbed on some Pickled Raspberry Distress ink here and there. Mist it finely with water, and then stamped on the smooth side of Distress Watercolor Paper. I made a mask for the coral, and then worked with the seaweed stamp. I inked it all in Peeled paint, and then dabbed on Mowed Lawn. Spritz gently with water and stamp. I tend to work with light colors first then dab on the dark. (all distress colors I used are linked below)
For the blue fish I used Peacock Feathers and Broken China. For the Orange Fish I used Wild Honey and Ripe Persimmon. For the pebbles at the bottom I used Seedless Preserves and for the filtration System I used Broken China. I spread some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink out on my craft sheet, spritzed with water and then painted in the water in the aquarium. Trying to avoid touching the other images too much as I didn’t want the colors to run together.
For the sentiment, I figured I would wish them the best in their new school year! I pieced together a few sentiments from the MFT Birthday Chalkboard Greetings set. I accented the word “best” with some Stickles dry glitter. I added some of the same glitter to the pebbles in the aquarium, just here and there.
I layered the fish, adhering one of them flat and then the other 2 popped up with foam tape. I used a heavy amount of glossy accents on their eyes. I used the We R Memory Keeper corner chomper and the 1/4″ side to round the corners of the Distress Watercolor Paper. I adhered this to some black Bazzill cardstock with foam tape, again trying to make it appear as an aquarium.
Ok- so now it’s time for YOU to enter the challenge.
