Lawnscaping Challenge #99: Clean and Simple

02/2/2015

Happy February! We have another Lawnscaping Challenge for you! The theme is Clean and Simple- so your card should have a lot of “white space” showing.

I have been on a bit of an ombre kick lately and wanted to play with creating an ombre background with watercolors. I started by stamping the “xo’s” from Lawn Fawn Quinn’s Abc’s and I used Archival Ink in Watering Can. I didn’t want them to be black and I wanted to make sure they didn’t bleed at all when I watercolored over them. Using a ruler I measured 1/4 of an inch from the edge of the Distress Watercolor Cardstock. I put the x and o on a block together and starting from the bottom stamped them up the card. It was easy to line it all up because they were clear stamps, but also because I had that ruler line on the edge to line the o’s up.

Once I had those stamped I then wet the cardstock with a big paint brush. I spritzed some Distress Spray Stains on my craft sheet and used those to watercolor. I used Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Festive Berries.

Whenever I wanted to move the color around, or blend it better I used just a wet paintbrush with no color on it. It really was a lot of fun. When it looked the way I wanted it to, I heat set it.

I then used some little bit stamps from the Lawn Fawn Birthday Tags , Happy Trails , Beep Boop Birthday and Critters Ever After. I set up the confetti, sprinkles and hearts on a block all together and stamped them up the card in Simon Says Stamp Hot Lips Dye Ink.

I really love how simple a “clean and simple” card can be- reminds you to step back and it doesn’t always need to be complicated 😉

Your bright background is fantastic! I love the little arrangement of bitty stamps around the edge. 🙂
