Get Cracking: Hello Winter

November comes around. I enjoy making the cards so much more when I have time to play with different supplies and techniques. I share these cards on the third Thursday of each month. You can see previous Get Cracking on Christmas posts here.

In December, I asked people in my {creative chick} studio share Facebook group, that if you didn’t send holiday cards in 2020, what were the reasons. One of the most common responses if they didn’t have enough time.

So I was thinking, how can I give you time? And I came up with a plan! I know that you enjoy when I host LIVEs and share with you a technique, or how I created a card- so this year each month for Get Cracking on Christmas I am going to host a LIVE. During these LIVEs, I encourage you to join me and start to Get Cracking on your OWN holiday cards. You can do something similar to mine, or just work on your own thing. Doesn’t matter, just show up and create!

Get Cracking: Hello Winter

For this card, used some of the latest products from the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Release, Mr. Frost, Festive Words, and Scribbly Snowflakes.

I started by smearing some Distress Ink on my background panel. I used Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink with a decent amount of water. I was also working on Distress White Heavystock. The trick with this card is to be sure to leave some white on the background so you are really able to see the swirls from the ink.

The Scribbly Snowflakes were cut out from another card I will be sharing soon, and I added those for some texture in the background.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy Mr. Frostie came together, there aren’t a lot of little pieces. I cut all the pieces out of Distress White Heavystock, and then ink blended the colors I wanted with Distress Oxide.

• Band on his hat: Kitsch Flamingo
• Scarf: Blueprint Sketch
• Carrot Nose: Spiced Marmalade
• Detail on the nose: Carved Pumpkin
• Coal bits and stick arms: Hickory Smoke
• Edges of Mr. Frosty: Salvaged Patina

I assembled him all with a Lawn Fawn Glue Tube, and then when he was put together I added some Prisma Glitter details with a Quickie Glue pen and Chunky Glitter near the base of him with the Glue Tube.

I layered the sentiment pieces together and popped those off the card, and lastly, I white embossed on black cardstock the sentiment “baby it’s cold outside” from Tim’s Tiny Text Christmas stamp set.
