It’s the third Thursday of the month, so I am encouraging YOU to start creating your holiday cards NOW – so you will have a nice stack of creations ready for the next holiday season.
For the past few years, I have been creating a few holiday cards each month so that I am more prepared when November comes around. I enjoy making the cards so much more when I have time to play with different supplies and techniques. I share these cards on the third Thursday of each month. You can see previous Get Cracking on Christmas posts here.
In December, I asked people in my {creative chick} studio share Facebook group, that if you didn’t send holiday cards in 2020, what were the reasons. One of the most common responses if they didn’t have enough time.
So I was thinking, how can I give you time? And I came up with a plan! I know that you enjoy when I host LIVEs and share with you a technique, or how I created a card- so this year each month for Get Cracking on Christmas I am going to host a LIVE. During these LIVEs, I encourage you to join me and start to Get Cracking on your OWN holiday cards. You can do something similar to mine, or just work on your own thing. Doesn’t matter, just show up and create!
This month’s YouTube LIVE will be, tonight, March 18th at 8:00p ET right on my YouTube channel here. Stop reading, and set an alarm now on your phone so you don’t miss out. You can use the world clock here to figure out what time it will be where you live.
Want a reminder text on your phone before I go LIVE? Text “jennshurkus” to 833-758-0501
Don’t worry, if you can’t make my LIVE you can always catch the replay on my YouTube channel.
Also each month I still have some wicked creative friends joining me in sharing holiday cards to inspire you. Be sure to read to the end of the post where they are linked, you don’t want to miss their fabulous creations.
And as you are creating your holiday cards this year, be sure to leave me a comment below with a link, or tag me on Instagram so I can see! We are also going to use the hashtag #getcrackingonchristmas.
We can do this! We can create holiday cards all year, and be a little bit more prepared for the holiday season!
Ok, enough chatting, let’s get this party started!!
Get Cracking: Cool Cat
One of the other reasons why I started Get Cracking, is because I like to buy ALLLLL the holiday stamps, but don’t have time to use them all. Since I am using them throughout the year, I can justify all my crafty purchases! Tricky, huh? I have some fun holiday stamps from Newton’s Nook Designs that I haven’t had a chance to create with yet. I decided to use one of those on my card this month.
I love coloring Newton to look like Mister Harley, and even better when there are 3 kitties together I can have all my kitties on the card. That is why I love this stamp set, Newton’s Snowman, well that, and because I am obsessed with snowman.
I started by stamping and Copic coloring the image. Mister Harley is easy to spot, but can you tell which one is Jac and which one is Gus? I then die-cut the image, add some Prisma glitter here and there and set it aside.
For the background, I ink blended Distress Oxides on Distress White Heavystock. I used Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Mermaid Lagoon.
I then die-cut both the Honeybee Stamps Birch A2 coverplates, the top plate and the base plate. One with Rainforest Lawn Fawn cardstock, and the other with Mermaid Lawn Fawn cardstock.
Next I gently inked these panels with Distress Oxide. The Rainforest panel I used Mermaid Lagoon, and the Mermaid panel I used Peacock Feathers. I then die-cut a fun sparkly, snowy hillside with Lawn Fawn’s Pixie Dust Sparkle Cardstock and Stitched Hillside Borders.
I layered all of these together, and then attached the kitties and snowman. For the sentiment, I stamped and white embossed “You’re a Cool Cat!” on a snowflake tag from Winter Tiny Tags from Lawn Fawn out of Mermaid Cardstock.
Next, I inked the edges with Peacock Feathers, Distress Oxide, and then tied a bow with Lime Lawn Fawn Lawn Trimmings. Lastly, I used a white gel pen to add the white hairs in Gus’s ears, and a black glaze pen for the kitties noses and the snowmans coal.
Learn how during my YouTube LIVE
I will share with you exactly how I created this card, tonight, March 18th at 8:00p ET on my YouTube page here. Set your reminders or better yet, get a reminder text on your phone text “jennshurkus” to 833-758-0501

Hi
Here is my card for this challenge 🙂
https://badkittyscraftroom.blogspot.com/2021/03/warm-hugs.html
Love this card!
its super cute!
Great Card! I know you must love Newton as much as I do. I made a card a while back with Newton’s Roundabout stamp – https://craftingwithjeanne.blogspot.com/2021/02/happy-holidays.html
What a wonderful card you made. Sometimes it’s hard to create something like that so far away from the holiday but it was great. I think I will invest in some of that Ranger distress cardstock. Recently saw an add and demo on the new domed foam tools and have ordered some. Seems they blend allot more smoothly. Thanks for all you do. Thanks for letting us know the stories behind your “children”. I, too, adopt and Rascal George was abandoned when someone moved. He’s great.
