By the Light of the Moon: A Spooky Scarecrow Tag

By the Light of the Moon: A Spooky Scarecrow Tag
Hi friends! Halloween is here, and I couldn’t resist making one more spooky tag. This one is a moody scarecrow under a big glowing moon, and I had so much fun putting it together.
A Leftover Tag Gets a Second Life
I had a gesso’d tag left over from the Wicked Little Countdown event, so I put it to good use! I used Distress Paints on the background with one of the fun techniques we went over during the event. I love how the purples, teals, and golden yellows blend together into a dreamy twilight sky.
Stamping the Background
Next, I added Distress Watercolor Pencils directly to the corn stalk stamp and stamped it onto the background. Coloring straight onto the stamp gives a soft, painterly look that’s perfect for a misty autumn field. Then I stamped the bats across the sky with Black Soot Archival Ink so they really pop against all that color.
My (Slightly Spooky) Favorite Scarecrow
Then I stamped and watercolored the scarecrow. You all know that Happy Harvest from Lawn Fawn is my most favorite scarecrow, but this one is my favorite when I want something a bit more spooky 😉 I love his stitched-up smile and the little crow perched on his hat!
A Moon with Dimension
For the moon, I again used Distress Watercolor Pencils directly on the stamp. The coordinating dies have two layers for cutting out the moon, which gives it lots of dimension. The dies also look so nice on the scarecrow and the sentiment, and they make putting everything together quick and clean.
Finishing Touches
To add a little sparkle, I used Distress Rock Candy Clear on the left side of the moon, and Distress Rock Candy Chunky along the bottom of the sentiment and in the grass. It catches the light beautifully, almost like frost on a chilly October night.
Last but not least, I tied a little bit of Mummy Cloth through the top of the tag. It’s the perfect creepy, tattered finish.
I just love how this one turned out! Using up a leftover background tag is one of my favorite ways to get creative, and it’s a reminder to never toss those extras. Thanks so much for stopping by, and Happy Halloween! 🎃🦇
