A Little Artsy, Simon Says Stamp April Card Kit
Did you get your April Simon Says Stamp Card Kit yet? Even though the kit has sold out, many of the individual elements are still available, I’ve linked everything I used at the bottom of this post so you can recreate a similar look!
Creating the Backgrounds
I started both cards by building up the backgrounds on Distress Watercolor Cardstock. First, I rubbed some Distress Micro Glaze through a Petal Lattice stencil, then buffed it with a paper towel.
Next, I swiped some Distress Oxides onto a craft mat, spritzed with water, and swiped the backgrounds through the ink. I splattered some water with the Distress Sprayer, then began drying with the Ranger Heat Tool, but before they were completely dry, I plopped them back into more ink, then dried them more fully.
I then added some Salvaged Patina Distress Paint to the craft mat, added water, and dropped the backgrounds into the paint. I broke up the paint with the Distress Sprayer, then dried this layer completely.
To add texture, I used some of the texture stamps from the A Little Artsy stamp set, picking up Black Soot Distress Paint directly from the craft mat as my “ink pad” and stamping across the backgrounds. After drying, I finished with a splatter of black paint.
Creating the Focal Images
For the butterfly and daisy, I wanted the look of black embossing, but let’s be honest, black embossing powder can be so finicky! Instead, I stamped each image several times using Versafine Onyx Black ink, then topped with ultra-fine clear embossing powder and melted it with my embossing gun. The result looks just like black embossing without the frustration!
I then watercolored the images using Distress Oxide Ink and fussy cut them out. (There are also coordinating dies available if you’d prefer to cut them that way!)
For the sentiments, I white embossed them onto black cardstock and cut those out as well.
Pulling It All Together
I trimmed the background panels down and cut a few strips from the A2 Creative Overlays Transparencies. I attached the transparency strips using the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher, then layered everything onto some patterned paper. The focal images and sentiments were added with foam squares and strips to give them that gorgeous dimension.
If mixed media feels a little intimidating, don’t worry, my Mixed Media In Season online class is the perfect place to start! And stay tuned, because more mixed media classes are on the way. Make sure you’re subscribed to my email newsletter so you don’t miss a thing!
