New Distress Foundry Wax, Tim Holtz/ Ranger
You guys, Distress Foundry Wax is the NEW embellishment/medium that you didn’t know you needed until you play with it! It is so very cool! I have a fun little photo tutorial to share with you on how I used it on my project.
First of all, let me try and describe Distress Foundry Wax, from my observations and experiments. It is a very cool metallic medium, it starts as a liquid, but as it is exposed to air it becomes almost a paste. I keep thinking of a cream eye shadow. You can rub it onto a surface (paper, metals, etc) then heat it with a heat tool or embossing gun and it turns into a beautiful SHINY metallic – once you heat set it, it will not budge.
Thinks to keep in mind:
- Be sure to keep the cap on the bottle when you aren’t using it because when it is exposed to air is when it becomes a paste-like texture
- Also, keep it away from heat. When you are heating it, be sure to set the bottle aside so that you don’t expose it to heat
- To clean it off a surface, or even your fingers you can use isopropyl alcohol or hand sanitizer
Ok, let me share how I used it!
I started by creating a couple of backgrounds with Distress Oxide Spray (Mermaid Lagoon, Crushed Olive) and Distress Spray Stain (Crushed Olive) on Distress White Heavystock. One background I set aside. The other I diecut with the Bubbling Sizzix die. I then squeezed a little bit of the new Gilded Foundry Wax onto my glass table and picked it up with my finger to rub on parts of the diecut panel.
I then heat set the panel. This is similar to embossing where, when it turns it is going to get wicked shiny, only Distress Foundry Wax is SO much shinier, and not really a plastic It is faster to use an embossing gun, but I was being lazy, and my Ranger Heat Tool was already plugged in. It is really SO cool! and SO very shiny!!
On the other background I created, I stamped the script stamp from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Papillion set with Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide ink. On another piece of Distress White Heavystock I stamped the lobster from the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Sea LIfe set, in Fired Brick Distress Oxide. While the ink was still wet, I took a wet paintbrush and pulled in some of the ink to color in the lobster a bit.
I fussy cut out the lobster with my trusty Fiskars Spring Action Scissors and Finger Tip X-acto Knife.
I then colored some Distress White Heavystock to diecut “seaweed” from. I used Distress Spray Stains (Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber, Crushed Olive). For the “seaweed” I used Tim Holtz/Sizzix Funky Festive Dies. I inked the edges a bit with Vintage Photo and Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink.
I colored some Tim Holtz Crinkle Ribbon, with Vintage Photo Distress Spray Stain to tie around the card. I added some of the Gilded Distress Foundry Wax along the edge of the card, dripping it directly from the bottle. The heat setting it- LOVE IT!!! I added a little bit of Glossy Accents to parts of the lobster. For the sentiment I used, Tim Holtz/Ideaology Metallic Stickers

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. 😊
This is a great new product. Seeing it used makes me want them all. Love how I saw a demo where a die cut sentiment was used and the person just put the wax on the bottom. What a beautiful difference. Thanks for sharing your ideas with this product.
Love how it transformed this thin die cut so easily! TFS
Jenn! Gorgeous as always!!
Hi Jenn! Saw an email from Ranger on the the Foundry wax, and when I saw the “reinker” styled bottles, I was kind of like ‘Meh”. THEN saw THIS, holy moley girl, you are wicked talented! Love love love your whole card! Off to get me some new goodies, thanks to being jennabled on all the pretties! 🙂
Oh, so cool! I wish they had names that described their colors if buying before watching a long Tim video. Guessing gilded is gold and sterling is silver… and could mined be copper and statue be… umm. lol
Yay, went over colors in the first minutes of his video. Clearly I need All the Things. ; ) Off to use your affiliate links, Jenn.
This is so cool. Just caught the tail end of Tim’s live. Love what you have done here.
