Get Cracking: Layer It Up With Die Cuts

This month’s Get Cracking on Christmas card started with a color combo I couldn’t stop thinking about: mint and pink. For the stenciled background, I reached for Lawn Fawn inks in Bubblegum, Minty Fresh, and Lucky Clover, and that palette ended up dictating everything else about this card.

Once the background was done, I knew exactly who belonged on top of it: this adorable nutcracker from Pink & Main. I colored him in with Copic markers, pulling from that same minty, candy-colored palette so he’d feel like part of the background rather than something layered on top of it. I’m sharing a swatch of the exact Copic colors I used below, so you can recreate the look yourself.

One thing I get asked about constantly is how to work with stencils that are more detailed or delicate, the kind with thin bridges and intricate cutouts that can warp or tear if you’re not careful. I’ve got some tips and tricks for handling these that I can’t wait to share, and I’m saving them for my upcoming LIVE. I’d love for you to join me there!
