Hey everyone! Welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Come Rain Or Shine challenge last week and we hope you will all join us again this week too.
This week the challenge is Anything Goes! Remember you can enter up to 5 times! 🙂 We are showcasing Ranger Products this week. You don’t have to use them to join in but if you have some we would love to see them used.
As always Simon Says Stamp will be giving away $50 voucher to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store! YAY!
It’s no secret that I love getting messy! I love being artsy fartsy and I LOVE all things Ranger! I decided for today’s challenge card I would share with you a photo tutorial. If you want to see me create this card in person be sure to scroll to the bottom to read about my next Periscope broadcast!
Ok, onto the card. I pretty much squealed out loud when I saw that there was going to be Distress Woodgrain Cardstock. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and ink it up so that was the starting inspiration for this card. I also couldn’t wait to play with Tim Holtz’s mini stencils, Distress Crayons and the Crazy Cats stamp set so I masterfully combined it all onto this card!
Note all the supplies I used are linked below
Step 1: Gather a sheet of Distress Woodgrain Cardstock, a water mister and 3 Distress Spray Stains. I used Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Mermaid Lagoon
Step 2: Spritz the cardstock with water. The starting with Picked Raspberry Spritz the cardstock with the Distress Spray Stains. After Picked Raspberry I did Mustard Seed then Mermaid Lagoon. To help the color blend a bit more gently spritz more water in between the 2 colors if needed.
Step 3: Heat set your background.
Step 4: Gather some Ranger Texture Paste, a palette knife and stencil. I used Tim Holtz’s Mini Rays which is in set 5.
Step 5: spread the Texture Paste through the stencil and set aside to dry or be impatient like me and heat set it 😉
Step 6: Clean off your stencil and dry it.
Step 7: Gather a few colors of Distress Crayons. I used Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Hickory Smoke
Step 8: Lay the stencil over the texture paste in the same manner you did to spread the paste. Scribble some Mustard Seed Distress Crayon over the paste.
Step 9: Smudge the crayon with your finger
Step 10: Scribble some Picked Raspberry Distress Crayon over the rays. I only covered part of them as seen in the photo
Step 11: Smudge the Picked Raspberry with your finger.
Step 12: Scribble some Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon on the rays. I concentrated along one edge.
Step 13: Smudge with finger
Step 14: Gather another stencil. I used the mini Ringer stencil that is in set 7. Also get some white gesso and a round mini ink blending tool.
Step 15: Blend through the stencil with white gesso. I like how translucent the gesso is.
Step 16: Pool some water in your hand by spritzing it from the mister bottle. Flick water droplets onto your background. Almost everything you have used so far is a Distress product so it will react with the water and give you some more texture
Step 17: Gather one more stencil. I used the mini Schoolhouse that is in set 8. Also get a Distress Paint, I used Hickory Smoke and an Ink Blending Tool.
Step 18: Blend some paint through the stencil adding some texture on the tops and bottom of your background.
Step 19 (not pictured): Water down some Night Dina Wakley Media Hard Body Acrylic Paint and flick droplets all over your background
Step 20 (not pictured): Stamp one of the Crazy Cats in Pumice Stone Distress Ink on Distress Watercolor Cardstock and watercolor it with various purple Distress Inks ( Seedless Preserves, Dusty Concord, Milled Lavender). Add detail to your cat with a white gel pen. Add glossy accents to the eyes.
Step 21 (not pictured): Assemble your card by adding a bit of washi tape and a sentiment from Small Talk stickers.
