Many of you know I’ve been coloring with Copic markers for over 20 years now, and most of the markers I use every day are that old, too!
The majority of my collection are Copic Originals (the square-barrel markers), with just a handful of Sketch style to fill in color gaps. I’ve swapped out the broad nibs on my Originals for brush tips, and I go over all of this (and so much more!) in my Copic 101 online class: https://shurk.us/class-copic101
I’ll continue to use Copics in my classes, but as I’ve always said, you can color with any medium you love. That’s why I share color swatches for every project, so you can easily match shades in your own collection.
Why I’m Adding OLO Color Comparisons
Going forward, I’ll also share a comparison swatch chart showing the Copic colors I use alongside their OLO equivalents. Why?
- I’ve noticed the quality of newly purchased Copics isn’t quite the same as the ones I bought years ago.
- OLO markers are an excellent alternative — great quality, a fantastic price point, and completely compatible with Copics.
I’ve always prided myself on standing by the products I use and recommend in class. If you love your Copics, keep using them — no need to switch! But if you’ve been frustrated or are looking for a different option, OLO markers are worth checking out.
And if you haven’t invested in alcohol markers yet, now’s a great time, OLOs are very affordable!

Is there a list or chart comparing the colors of Copic, OLO and SU alcohol markers?
I am not sure as I don’t have SU markers- but I bet there is. I would try searching/googling for it
Hi Jenn – I noticed that you listed Copic colors for your Crop & Create class
Do you have Olo marker equivalents for those?
Yes- they were posted on the SCT website, the event dashboard in the homework section I believe
I really like my OLO markers gave my copics to my daughter-in-law so 2 happy people. Like the convenience
features,
I have been replacing my dried out Copics with Olos at Papercraft Clubhouse. I am excited to see your comparison/alternate color choices.
What sets did you buy in the OLO?
I got them all so I would be able to do comparison charts for my classes as best as I can
Thank you for adding OLO swatches. I am thinking about switching. The colors aren’t exactly the same and sometimes I have not been satisfied with my own choices.
I don’t think you need to switch- keep using your Copics, and use OLO with them
