Time to get cracking on those holiday cards, so I am encouraging YOU to start creating your holiday cards NOW – so you will have a nice stack of creations ready for the next holiday season.
For the past few years, I have been creating a few holiday cards each month so that I am more prepared when November comes around. I enjoy making the cards so much more when I have time to play with different supplies and techniques. I share these cards on the third Thursday of each month. You can see previous Get Cracking on Christmas posts here.
In December, I asked people in my {creative chick} studio share Facebook group, that if you didn’t send holiday cards in 2020, what were the reasons. One of the most common responses if they didn’t have enough time.
So I was thinking, how can I give you time? And I came up with a plan! I know that you enjoy when I host LIVEs and share with you a technique, or how I created a card- so this year each month for Get Cracking on Christmas I am going to host a LIVE. During these LIVEs, I encourage you to join me and start to Get Cracking on your OWN holiday cards. You can do something similar to mine, or just work on your own thing. Doesn’t matter, just show up and create!
This month’s YouTube LIVE will be, tonight, June 17th at 8:00p ET right on my YouTube channel here. Stop reading, and set an alarm now on your phone so you don’t miss out. You can use the world clock here to figure out what time it will be where you live.
Want a reminder text on your phone before I go LIVE? Text “jennshurkus” to 833-758-0501
Don’t worry, if you can’t make my LIVE you can always catch the replay on my YouTube channel, I will also post the video below after the LIVE.
See the replay below!
Also each month I still have some wicked creative friends joining me in sharing holiday cards to inspire you. Be sure to read to the end of the post where they are linked, you don’t want to miss their fabulous creations.
And as you are creating your holiday cards this year, be sure to leave me a comment below with a link, or tag me on Instagram so I can see! We are also going to use the hashtag #getcrackingonchristmas.
We can do this! We can create holiday cards all year, and be a little bit more prepared for the holiday season!
Ok, enough chatting, let’s get this party started!!
Get Cracking: Nautical Joy
Digging into my “never used on a project yet” bin, I gathered some stamps from Impression Obsession. They always have fabulous nautical stamps and I love the holiday spin on these.
I decided to do some no-line watercoloring so I stamped the images on the smooth side of Distress Watercolor Cardstock with Antique Linen Distress Ink.
I then proceeded to watercolor with regular Distress Inks. No line watercoloring can look tricky, but it is much easier than you would think. The Antique Linen Distress Ink pad does all the work. I used the following colors:
- Scattered Straw
- Fossilized Amber
- Tattered Rose
- Worn Lipstick
- Festive Berries
- Cracked Pistachio
- Evergreen Bough
- Pine Needles
- Salvaged Patina
- Speckled Egg
Speckled Egg Distress Ink was used on the outer edge of the wreath, and it really is magical and pulls the whole image together. I will share my tips and tricks for all of this during my YouTube LIVE.
I die-cut the watercolor panel with Lawn Fawn’s Outside In Stitched Rectangle Stackables. Next, I splattered some Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi gold paint.
To finish off the card I added some pearls from Trinity Stamps, and mounted the watercolor panel on some gold metallic cardstock.
Remember, I have some fun tips and tricks I share with you in the video below!

What a great card for living on the Cape. I loved it. I’m pretty traditional but this one caught me and pulled me in. Thanks for showing something that peaked my interest and showed me another way to do things.
Your card design is fabulous, very nicely painted , it reminds me of my grandparents homes at Christmas , traditional but beautiful. I’ve watched & read previous of your Get Cracking series & I agree with you that it definetly takes the pressure off. With 2020 being locked down so much I did manage to get a decent amount of cards made early, not going quite so well this year. I’m hoping your inspiration mojo kick will start me off making. Stay safe, keep making .
Love the Nautical look for your Get Cracking card and your color combination!
