Friendly Flowers, Simon Says Stamp Card Kit
I think you can see from above the variety of cards you can get from this kit from Simon Says Stamp. Using the stamp set, the papers, the stickers etc. you can get so many different looks and different cards. Here I will explain all five cards to you and how I went about creating them.
Sending Smiles
This was the first card I created when I saw the kit. Right away I knew I needed to watercolor the main image in the Friendly Flowers 6×8 stamp set included in the kit.
For this card, I started by stamping the cluster of flowers image included in the Friendly Flowers 6×8 stamp set and embossed it in cream embossing powder that was also included in the kit. I did this on a piece of Distress Watercolor cardstock, the smooth side. Then I watercolored with Distress Ink re-inkers. I dripped out a palette on a Tonic replacement non-stick mat. I use this to replace the Ranger craft sheet because it clings to my glass tabletop. Having Tim Holtz’s Tonic glass mat would also work. You also don’t need a lot of the reinker dripped out, because the ink is intense and a little goes a long way.
I used the following Distress ink colors:
- Worn Lipstick
- Crushed Olive
- Chipped Sapphire
- Mustard Seed
- Vintage Photo
I watercolored the whole background with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, playing a lot with water, especially in the upper right corner.
I stamped and embossed the sentiment and the butterfly using Distress Oxides, Vintage Photo, and Wild Honey. For the sentiment strip, I edged it with the Tonic Paper Distresser. Lastly, I trimmed the background down a bit, so I would have room for a border. Using the diagonal stripe stamp included in the stamp set, I stamped and cream embossed it on Distress Kraft Heavystock.
Love You More
For this card, I got a little carried away with the Simple Stories Cottage Fields patterned papers included in the kit. I cut out the butterflies and adhered them to some cream cardstock. For the sentiment, I used one of the stickers included in the kit and stamped one of the small sentiments from the 6×8 stamp set. I then chose another patterned paper to mat it all on.
Oh Happy Day
For this card, I brought back what I think is an “old school technique” with stickers. I chose a variety of stickers from the ones included in the card kit, and flipped them over so I was looking at the back of them. I then put foam dots all around on the back of each sticker. I then dusted the rest of the stickers with the EK Powder tool, so essentially I am taking a flat sticker and making it a dimensional one. We used to do this a lot back in the day with scrapbooking, it was a flashback for me, for sure!
I then arranged the images onto a stitched rectangle I cut on Distress Watercolor cardstock, on the textured side. I wanted that look for this card. I then added the stitched rectangle to some more patterned paper from the kit.
Dream More
For this card, I cut out another one of the butterflies from the patterned paper. I was just loving them so much! I added it to a stitched rectangle on Distress Watercolor cardstock. I used some sentiments from the stickers, popping them up with foam dots.
For the background I used two different patterned papers from the kit, I loved the black and white diagonal stripes peeking out! I also added one of the Tim Holtz Idea-ology mini flair pieces that were included in the kit as well.
I wrapped some pink velvet ribbon up the side of the card, this was also part of the kit. It is the Tim Holtz warm velvet trims.
Best Day Ever
For this last card, I almost gave up on this one. It was not turning out the way I had imagined. I was texting with my friend Chari, and she gave me a few suggestions that helped this card along, and now I love it!
I started by stamping the individual flower images from the Friendly Flowers 6×8 stamp set, in the center of a stitched rectangle that was cut out of Distress Watercolor cardstock. I stamped the center flower first, masked it, and then stamped the 2nd flower on the left and the right, overlapping them. I stamped the flowers with Antique Linen Distress Ink because my original intention was to do some no-line watercoloring. So I started watercoloring the flowers with Distress reinkers:
- Worn Lipstick
- Festive Berries
- Kitsch Flamingo
- Picked Raspberry
They just weren’t turning out the way I wanted, and then Chari suggested, stamping the images again with black ink to get the outline of the flowers back. So, I did just that! Using Versafine Onyx Black ink, I stamped the center flower first, masked it, and stamped the side flowers and I loved how it looked!
I watercolored and splattered a bit of Tumbled Glass Distress ink on the background. I then attached the stitched rectangle to some patterned paper and used one of the stickers for a sentiment.
There are so many other cards I could create with this awesome card kit, I can’t wait to play with it a bit more! I hope you enjoy these cards and find them inspiring for when you get your kit!
