Hi everyone! I have a wicked FUN batch of cards for you to share! One day over on Instagram I got a message from Flora & Fauna saying how they liked my style and wanted to send me a few stamp sets to play with- nothing like that to really brighten up your day.
If you are visiting my blog for the first time or have not yet subscribed – be sure to do so! I share lots of handmade projects every week delivering them straight to your inbox! I also occasionally share information about crafty classes and new product releases I love. Subscribe here.
At CHA/Creativeation the Flora Fauna booth was right across from the Lawn Fawn one so I had time to chit chat with the Flora girls- they are so sweet 🙂 I forgot to take a pic with them, but here they are in their booth.
I had already purchased a mermaid set of theirs *shocker* but loved seeing some of their new images coming out, especially the VW ones 🙂 I had so much fun creating these cards and can’t wait to share with you a bit more detail about each one!
Hello Sunshine
For this card, I wanted to create a watercolored rainbow background on Distress Watercolor Cardstock (the smooth side). I used Distress Inks (Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Seedless Preserves).
I started by taking a wet brush and laying some water down where I wanted the first color, then I touched the color into that pool of water with my paintbrush. Dabbing the color around and moving it where I want it on the background. In between colors I heat set so the colors wouldn’t mix. I repeated this step for all the colors leaving room for the sun stamp. I then stamped the sun in Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink and gently went over the image with a wet brush to give it a more watercolored look.
On a piece of Neenah cardstock, I stamped the VW Bus and colored it in with Copics. I used a combination of warm grays except for the flowers. I then fussy cut out the VW Bus and added foam tape to adhere it to the card.
I stamped the sentiment “Hello Sunshine” with Versafine Onyx Black ink and added 2 layers of Glossy Accents to the lights and windows.
Sending Good Vibes
Continuing on with the rainbow theme- I ink blended this background with Distress Oxide Inks ( Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, Seedless Preserves). Did you know that Distress Oxide Inks blend like BUTTA? 😉
On a separate piece of cardstock, I stamped the VW Bug and colored it in with Copics, primarily warm grays. Then fussy cut it out.
Little known fact about me: I have ALWAYS wanted to own an older VW Bug and still hope to someday! For now, my VW Jetta will have to do 😉
I added foam tape to the VW bug and popped it up off the card, stamped the sentiment “sending good vibes” and tiny flowers with Versafine Onyx Black ink. Lastly, I added a little sprinkle of sequins.
Keep on movin’ love bug
Ok, you might think I went a little overboard with the rainbows and VW’s- but I was having WAY too much fun to stop! Using the solid heart in the Love Bug stamp set I created the background stamping with Distress Oxide Inks ( Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, Seedless Preserves). Since Distress Oxides have some pigment ink properties they stamp solid stamps sooooo nicely.
I then cut out 3 Volkswagon Car Dies in black cardstock. I layered gray cardstock behind each one and fussy cut it out. I added them to the card with foam tape.
Lastly, I stamped out the sentiments with Versafine Onyx black ink and cut them out in a way I call “word fetti”. I added them to the card with foam tape as well.
To finish off the card I added 2 layers of Glossy Accents to the headlights and windows.
You are mer-mazing
I couldn’t wait to use this sweet little mermaid!
For this card, I stamped the scallop shell in Distress Oxide Black Soot, and I brushed out some of the color with a wet paintbrush on Distress Watercolor Cardstock, the smooth side. I also dabbed on a bit of Picked Raspberry and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Inks just to add a hint of color.
Then I did a bit of ink smooshing on the background with Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides. I smooshed the inkpad on a transparency and spritzed with water, then you turn that over and dab here and there on the background where you want to lay color down. This way I could avoid getting any on the scallop shell. I heat set in between layers to add a lot of dimension. For the last layer of ink as I was heat-setting it, I also spritzed some water from the Distress Sprayer, adding little water droplets to react with the ink as it dried.
On a piece of Neenah cardstock, I stamped the mermaid and colored her in with Copic markers. I then fussy cut her out. I love using Fiskars Micro-Tip Scissors for fussy cutting, but also in this case to do the space between her hair and tail and around her hair I used a Fiskars Finger Tip Control Craft Knife.
For the sentiment, I stamped “you are mer-mazing” in Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder on black cardstock. I cut this sentiment with the same “word-fetti” style. I layered the mermaid and sentiment on the card with foam tape and finished the card off by squeezing a generous amount of Simply White Nuvo Drops, to create a pearl.
Oceans of Love
I have a little secret, I saved my favorite for last 😉 . I absolutely LOVE how this card came out.
I started by stamping the waves from the Under the Sea stamp set in Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide Ink on Distress Watercolor Cardstock, the textured side. While the ink was still wet I started to brush out some of the color from the stamped image. I also smooshed some ink on a laminated sheet of cardstock so that I could use it to paint with to fill in the background as well. I heat set in between layers to add dimension. For the last layer of ink as I was heat-setting it, I also spritzed some water from the Distress Sprayer, adding little water droplets to react with the ink as it dried.
Once the background was dry I stamped some of the coral and seaweed with Distress Oxide Inks (Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Twisted Citron).
On a piece of Neenah cardstock I stamped the whale and colored it in with Copic markers. I think blues are pretty hard to shade with, but I was happy with how he turned out. I fussy cut him out and adhered him to the card with foam tape.
I stamped the spray of hearts with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink, stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black Ink.
To finish the card off I used the Lawn Fawn Glue Tube and added some Chunky Glitter to the ocean floor. I also added some clear Nuvo Drops around the hearts.

All of these cards are so cute! I especially love your VW Bus card. It reminds me of my teenage years in the early 70’s when those were so popular and kids loved driving those to the beach. I’ve always wanted one.
