I picked up this HUGE scallop shell stamp at absolutley everything when i was there for their handmade market (which i have yet to blog about)

Sorry my posts are a few days behind.. when i originally planned this i didnt know that colorful creations was also closing at the end of july, so needless to say things have been a *bit* hectic 🙂

I also thought i would share with you what it is like here on the island when i am trying to photograph my work 🙂

today i'm happy to share with you some of adele's work… i worked for her straight out of college, and she is a SUPER talented calligrapher and artist…. you can check out her website here

Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Adele Sanborn received a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology and moved to Boscawen, NH in the early ‘70s. She and her husband dairy farmed together until 1984 when Adele started the Concord, New Hampshire graphic design firm of Cornerstone Design. In 1990 she opened the retail store, Caardvark in downtown Concord, NH. Then in 20
05 she traded in some of her retail talents to spend her time pursuing her 
calligraphy and papermaking full time at her studio, the Paint Box, in Webster, NH.  She has dedicated over 30 years to the fine art of lettering and is also a juried member of the NH Art Association, the WCA of NH, and the League of 
NH Craftsmen. She exhibits throughout the New England area and is represented at the East Colony Art Gallery of Manchester, New Hampshire, Anderson Gallery in Lexington, Massachusetts and at the Clever Hand Gallery in Wellesley, 
Massachusetts.

Artist’s statement
Describing herself as a “self-taught folk artist”, Adele has been a member of the League of NH Craftsmen since 1975, juried in papermaking, photography and calligraphy. Trained as a technical photographer, Adele always disliked being in a darkroom & was delighted to discover alternative ways of developing photos, including Polaroid transfers and Lazertran copy material. “It’s created a great way to combine my photography with my love of calligraphy,” she explains. She works from the Paint Box, her lakeside studio in Webster, NH, where she combines a love of lettering, paper and photograhic images into framed messages celebrating life and its possibilities.

“I like to transform the written dimension into lettering art and then accent the verse with watercolors, my own photos, and natural found objects.  My mixed media pieces remind me that letters can tickle your Soul.”
