Hi everyone,
I’m here today with a fun post! Michelle Lupton invited me to be part of her CASE Me a Christmas Card Hop. CASE stands for Copy And Selectively Edit. Each of us chose a card from another hop participant for inspiration and then created a Christmas card of our own in return. You can read more about this fun gathering here.
I was asked to find a card by Jo Herbert. As soon as I started scrolling her Instagram feed, I was drawn to her cards featuring alcohol inks, and I loved this one in particular. It’s so pretty and has such a bold design. It also reminded me that I hadn’t played with alcohol inks in quite some time!
CASE Me a Christmas Card Hop: Alcohol Ink Snowman

The Background
I started with the background. Working on Yupo paper, I used four alcohol ink colors: Cool Peri, Purple Twilight, Stream, and Pool, along with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Next, I stamped a scripty background stamp here and there with Black Soot Archival Ink. To finish it off, I splattered on some Tarnished Brass Distress Spritz for a touch of metallic sparkle.
Coloring the Snowman
While the background dried, I worked on the snowman. I stamped him in River Rock Lawn Fawn ink, then colored in the carrot nose and scarf and added a touch of blue to the shadows. I stamped the hat in Jet Black ink, added some color to the band and buckle, and used a light gray for the highlights. I’m sharing a swatch of all the Copic markers I used below.

Putting It Together
I trimmed the background to 4″ x 5.25″ and ink-blended the card base with Spun Sugar Distress Ink before adhering the background to it.
I die-cut the snowman and hat with the coordinating dies, adhered the hat to the snowman, and then used foam squares to pop him up on the card.
For the sentiment, I white heat embossed it onto black cardstock, cut it into word strips, and added them beside the snowman.
Finishing Touches
Lastly, I added some Distress Rock Candy Clear to the shadows of the snowman and Glossy Accents to the buckle. I filled in the eyes with a black Micron pen so they’d really pop.
Thanks for Stopping By!
This was such a fun challenge, and I’m so glad Jo’s gorgeous work nudged me to pull my alcohol inks back out. Those swirls of purple and teal were the perfect wintry backdrop for this cheerful little snowman! A big thank you to Michelle for inviting me to be part of the hop, and to Jo for the beautiful inspiration.
