Online Resources: *virtual* Creative Journey Art Retreat June 2023

The Creative Journey Art Retreat is an event I have been hosting in-person for a number of years and is now online as well. This event is very popular, sells out quickly, and I got many requests to have access to the video tutorials, and class handouts after the LIVE virtual event.

Included in your class fee:

  • 10+ hours of instruction, and craft time
  • 13 handmade cards were created.  The cards include some of the latest products from many companies including Lawn Fawn, Newton’s Nook, Hero Arts, Honey Bee Stamps, Ranger Ink, Purple Onion Designs, Colorado Craft Company, Trinity Stamps, Pinkfresh Studio, Simon Says Stamps, Gina K. Designs and more.
  • Access to the exclusive retreat resource page. Here you will be able to access all the supply lists, download the handout, and follow links to the video tutorials.
  • A 20 page instruction handout. This handout includes images of all the cards, including a detail shot, and supplies listed per card as well as some assembly information. This handout also includes Copic coloring guides. (If you do not have Copic markers you can choose to color with a different medium and you will still find the coloring guides helpful).

Supplies Needed

Kits are not shipped for this. Within the class resource page, all supplies that are used will be listed and linked. There are a few basic supplies you will need.

Policies

  • Due to the nature of this event, there are no refunds. Once you register and pay you are given access to the private event resource page so there are no refunds. If you are unable to attend the event LIVE you will be able to watch the replays.
  • The event resource page and event videos are exclusive to event attendees it goes without saying this should not be shared with others. When the event sells out, crafty friends can still sign up for the event resources at a discounted rate and will then have access to these resources as well. I keep events and class fees affordable, I would hope you support me in not sharing this information. Thank you!

This was a great class. I learned so much about everything! And the box of dies/stencils…was amazing! and Jenn gives us so many tips and tricks.

  2. Andrea Stermer

I really loved these classes! I’ve been making cards now for a long time, so seeing different ways to use what I have and creating new backgrounds was really refreshing. I found myself really smiling and having a good time doing some of the techniques. I highly recommend, this retreat! Will definitely do it again.

I was out of town during the event and am slowly making my way through the course. This is an amazing experience, because of the variety of projects, the wonderful materials we received, most of all, Jenn’s teaching. I totally recommend any of Jenn’s classes for any paper crafter. Newbies and experienced will all get done new skills and end with some gorgeous cards!

This is not my first nor will it ever be my last Jenn Shurkus event! It was however my first Creative Art Journey Retreat and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I missed here and there over the weekend because the wonderful Dina Wakley was in town and I had to see her too; however I made up quickly for lost time on Monday and Tuesday of this week during the replays. Jenn was as always the absolute best instructor who not only paced the course perfectly for all, but ensured we got 13 cards done! She is one of the greatest people and instructors that I know from her mermaid, beachy vibe to her beautiful and generous soul and personality. I feel as though I know Jenn personally and in fact even though I only know her virtually she makes every one of her students feel special. She is incredibly down to earth and I would highly recommend anything with Shurkus sealed after it. The only bummer is that I totally Jennabled myself to go nuts with the discount codes at the sponsors shops, but it’s all good and it’s totally my fault and I have a lot of great stamp sets and goodies to commemorate the event!. I fell in love with too many of the things that this wonderful kit had to offer so shopped around for more ocean themed goodies after the event for I was just mesmerized by all of the cards. Jenn did a great job designing each and every one and I know she put a lot of her time and effort into planning this well thought out Retreat. Thank you Jenn for such a wonderful time at your Retreat! I will definitely be back next year and will see you in September at Lawn Fawn. Xoxo

This was my first virtual event with Jenn. I’ve always seen her teach at other events, but not her own. It was great!! The pace was good and the info/tips shared were well worth the class price. The Stamper’s Anonymous event stamp set was a great surprise, thanks Jenn!

The Creative Journey Art Retreat is one of my favorite card making events! I love Jenn’s style and the slow but thorough way she teaches. Lots of time for questions, chit chat, and doing your project in real time during the class without getting behind. I also love how there seems to be a new technique taught at each event. Can’t wait to do an in-person event someday!

This was a wonderful experience, especially as i really want to improve my Copic coloring skills, and watercolor pencil skills. This was terrific for that in terms of releasing the anxiousness I was having. I have also signed up for the watercolor pencil class, and already did Copic 101 which was also fabulous!

What an awesome event this June Creative Journey Art Retreat was! We ended up with 13 hours of Jenn walking us through each and every step of completing 13 cards. This was my second Art Retreat with her and I still can’t believe all that she packs into the event. We Copic colored, ink blending, did inky techniques, made a pop-up card and a shaker card, used watercolor pencils, colored a flower gray (wow!!), and much, much more. I love taking Jenn’s Lawn Fawn and Distress Techniques classes but having her teach using so many different event sponsor’s products is over the top amazing!!

First of all, this was my first time taking a class from Jenn. I immediately purchased a past class, distress water color pens, and AND already watching that.

NOW, as far as signing up for the live event… I was a bit nervous to do so, Wondering if I thought I’d get value from it. I’m here to tell you it was very valuable. Like VERY VALUABLE. Not all stamps were my style, but I’ll say those that I want excited about… ended up being my favorite cards.

I was able to create all the cards and never fell too far behind. I did do the homework and am glad I did. Now, if you’re purchasing the class after the fact… I will say it would be worth it if you want to learn new techniques or just really want to know how a pro does it. So, I’d say BUY THIS CLASS.

Future me will be signing up for classes again!

Another great class from Jenn! She creates the best coloring guides. Even though I’m an experienced card maker, I always learn something new or I have an “oh yeah, I forgot about that technique” moment. Not all the cards were my usual style and that’s a good thing. I loved them all. And did I mention she explains everything she’s doing. I love her classes.

Wonderful event! I loved how the materials were pre-stamped, diecut and packaged per card (we also received the stamps and some of the dies used in our box as well). It was soooooo nice to NOT have a bunch of time consuming “homework” to prep for the weekend like so many events require. This is a lot of work for Jenn and her team of helpers, but they really go above and beyond in doing it all! THANK YOU! Jenn takes her time going step by step through the processes while teaching. She answered our questions and didn’t try to hurry us along, but also kept us on task. This is the skill of an experienced teacher and it shows! The cards and materials we received were all incredible! The sponsors were very generous and we got product in value beyond what we paid for the box. The cards we made were absolutely stunning and spanned a variety of techniques and styles – definitely something for everyone. Even the stamps I was not sure about ended up making some of my favorite cards! Jenn’s handouts, photos and details are top notch too. Warning: you can substitute a lot of things off the supply list (and Jenn encourages this), but you’ll also be “jennabled” into wanting supplies after you see Jenn use them in real life. Ha. What else can I say except I can’t wait for the next one?! Thank you, Jenn! I had the best time!

I am such a fan of Jenn and her classes! This Creative Journey Art Retreat….she knocked it out of the park. She introduced techniques in a user friendly way that totally eliminated the fear factor. The variety or cards, techniques and mediums made it that much more fun. While dipping my toes into unchartered territory, Jenn lead the way in an easy pace and lots of encouragement. As always, her instructions are top notch, detailed yet concise and organized. I wish I could do a class a week to fill my crafty heart and my card box. I will be coming back for more…!!! Thanks to Gus Gus, Mr. Harley Kitten Shurkus, Jac and of course, Chris for supervising and background support.

I really enjoyed the classes, loved the cards, learned some new techniques, and have a lot of great product to use for my own creations. Can’t wait until the next virtual event!

Another wonderful weekend crafting with Jenn. I love all her classes and although I know she is really busy would love more classes. I think I have signed up for almost everything she has/will be teaching. I did not plan on getting the Distress pencils but when this class came up, I bought set 1. After the weekend was over, I had to get the other two sets (totally worth it)….Jennabled!! Jenn always has wonderful tips and tricks that I never thought of!! Thanks for another outstanding class!!

  15. Leslie S.

I love Jenn’s virtual Creative Journey Art Retreats! I always learn new techniques and end up with some pretty amazing cards. Jenn is one of the best teachers out there in my opinion. You cannot go wrong if you sign up for one of these retreats. I can’t wait until the next one and I will continue to sign up for these in the future!

These events are never ever disappointing! I have done a couple virtual Creative Journey Art Retreats now and they are my favorite events. You get to create 13 cards with a wide variety of themes. I love that you get to play with products/stamps that you would not always pick yourself, but end up loving anyway. Jenn is an amazing teacher and no matter how many classes I have done with her, I always learn something new and she always gets me hooked on a new product or technique! And let’s be honest, do you create 13 cards in a normal weekend? I definitely don’t and love to build up my card stash during these events. Oh and there are a few cards in this class that you can easily and quickly make a few of at the same time. I love creating multiples if I need a bunch of cards quickly.
