just a quick little ATC i did….  ;) foil, glitter, kraft yumminess!!!

my crafty friend for today is Liz…. we were on the a muse instructor team together… before that and even now she partakes in a lot of my classes at ink about it :) ) always fun to have her!!! She's expecting a little one in the fall…..

here is what she had to say: "

When the amazing Jenn Shurkus offered up an opportunity to appear on her {creative chick} blog, I didn't wait one second to jump at the opportunity!  Ok, maybe I waited a little while, because I am so horribly backlogged on my email (hangs head in shame)… but as soon as she sent a reminder, THEN I didn't wait one second more!  :)

Anyway, this is a very exciting day!

Jenn's chosen theme for this guest post is ocean/nautical, and so you know I had to grab some of the awesome custom images designed by and sold at Colorful Creations.  I had picked up most of this custom collection last summer, but let's just say I hadn't necessarily used them as much as I had wanted… so I was thrilled to get to ink them up!

pop on over to her blog to see the card she is donating!!

Just a quick card i put together with some left over supplies i had on my crafty table from the projects i created for CHA summer… I inked the edges of these diecuts with vintage photo to give them more dimension!

Now onto Holly's creations… she is not only a talented papercrafter… shes a gifted potter as well!! I just love everything she creates with clay!! she is donating a tea light to the winning bidder!!! go place your bids!!

"Scallop Shell Tea Lights" by Holly Heaslip
These tea lights are one of my favorite pieces to make. Made on the potter's wheel, then altered to more of an oval shape, and hand carved with a scallop design. I use a white earthenware clay and each piece is fired to over 2000 degrees in two separate firings lasting 8 to 9 hours each. The thing I love most is when the tea light is lit and the light coming through the craving throws a beautiful shadow pattern on the table. They are most dramatic in groupings of two or more. A great gift or on the table at a "beach" theme wedding! One of my most popular items, these may be purchased by contacting me. check out my etsy shop here

Playing with some more creative imaginations goodies… i decided to jazz up another postcard of theirs…. I used more of the sticky 2 rubons and folils to make the shells, cut those out. I used some of the tim holtz ribbon, adding color to it with my luminarte color concentrate in ginger peach. I love how this came out… almost want to keep it for myself.. but i wont… i will give it to the winner of the silent auction ;)

and for todays creative friend i bring to you my OLDEST friend ;) not in age.. but in years weve been friends… steph :) i am so so so proud of her photography, and i'll be sure to be ordering some of these prints for the island!! She is donating them to the highest bidder!!

I couldn't resist these fun little beachy playing cards from october afternoon, last time i was at ink about it teaching… I used a memory box printed notecard, some of their printed paper and then the lil card… I ended up rounding the corners for a different look.

Today my crafty friend is Mary Russo, she works and teaches at ink about it, and anytime she has a class i try my hardest to be there… she is always inspiring!!!
Here is what mary had to say:

I love all things summer and beachy like Jenn and was thrilled to be included in her blog fun.  I've been checking in daily and all of the projects are so inspiring.
Mine is a scrapbook page I did as a sample for Ink About it in Westord, MA using a beach photo of my youngest son.  The paper is  October Afternoon's Seaside collection and May Art's ribbon.  I added some dimension with my new favorite tool, the Catalina border die from Memory Box.  My jumping off point for this page was an article I saw in Scrapbook Trends Cards Magazine (June 2011) that showed a cool ribbon ruching technique.  It was very easy and I used it underneath my photo.
Thanks for looking!
-Mary

if you have been following my blog this year, you are aware of the many obsticales i have been faced with. Switching up my instructor rolls, and no longer working with a muse. A crazy busy spring where most of which I didn’t even get into on here (i.e. a scrapbook company falsely charging my personal checking account keeping my acct in negative for over a month etc, crop on the cape etc etc). The announcement of Colorful Creations closing… a shock to me and a loss of the job I have had for over 8 years…..

As much as I know everything happens for a reason, there is the initial panic attack when something like this happens…. In June I lost a childhood friend, Keegan Heavey to cancer. I was immediately reminded (again) how short life can be, and how I am lucky and blessed in life.
As soon as i got out of the fog and started to put one foot forward… things started to fall into place…

If you follow me on facebook, you may have already guessed i DO have a new job!

I have been offered and accepted a position at Providence College for Web Production Coordinatior. I am super excited on SOO many levels… I’m excited to get more into a graphic design field (what I went to college for) I’m excited at the opportunity to learn SO many new things… I’m excited to work for Dan again, whom I did in college as well.(it’s a small world!) I am excited to leave the life of retail behind me, which I have been in since I was 15! Have I mentioned I am excited!!!??? :)

I will miss seeing all my regulars on a regular basis, but i know i have made friendships over the years that will not go away just because the store is. I will miss working with Jayne.. and all of the {creative chicks} but once again, I know we have created friendships that will last a lifetime :)

I will still continue to travel and teach.. I already have classes planned for the fall at Ink About It, Papercraft Clubhouse, Absolutely Everything and the Crop Shop…. and now that I know how i’m going to pay my bills I can focus on booking more classes as well!

I am still going to open an etsy shop with my canvases, and complete the custom orders I  took at the Handmade market in June.

Make sure you “like” my artist page on facebook to be the first to know more details about these fun adventures!

I am not moving from the island... I love where I live and if I can make it work to continue to live there, I will… if not… I will deal with that when the time comes.

My last shift at the store is July 28th, and I begin my new adventure on August 1st. This week is filled with planned fun events with friends… amazing burger lunch, Chart room beverages outside.. my last FREE thursday night, beach visits, and shopping for a whole new wardrobe ( i can’t wear flip flops.. but i can wear dressy open toe sandals *phew*)

Thank you, thank you thank you for all the encouraging words, the fingers, legs, arms and toes crossing…. etc etc etc… it was all fabulous and made me smile from ear to ear… i truly have some of the best friends a girl could ask for :)

And i’ll leave you with this pic that steph took of me in preparation of 2011… little did i know HOW much this was going to be true ;)

(stay tuned for more july blog post features starting tomorrow!!! and hopefully more bidding ;) )
